On the afternoon of Friday 28 April, a selection of players from across the Under 10 KPR squads played a Fulham F.C. Development side.
Our boys held their own against a very strong group of players, all of whom are no doubt handpicked and trained very intensely. Despite all that, KPR were in no way fazed by the quality of the opposition or the badge that they were up against. Although we lost 2-0, we hit Fulham several times on the break and had several chances to pull one back – and Fulham’s first goal should have been disallowed for handball!
Such was the interest in the game that we effectively played two different teams, one in each half, giving nearly 25 boys the opportunity to test themselves. They all stayed competitive and gave their all on the pitch. It was a truly wonderful occasion: there was ample encouragement from the sidelines; and all the parents and coaches were left incredibly proud! Steve, who has been coaching the top KPR side in this age group for three seasons, described it as the proudest moment of his managerial career.
We now look forward to the return leg at Motspur Park!
